Allan Chesang Trans-Nzoia Senator Denies Links To Gold Scam

Trans-Nzoia senator Allan Chesang has distanced himself from allegations that he is linked to a gold scam unearthed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The DCI associated Chesang with three suspects who were arrested in Nairobi’s posh Runda estate on Saturday.

“Fauzia Wanjiru alias Issa, Shallo Fatma alias Tett and Jackson Ochieng were arrested at Momesa Vale house number 199, following an intelligence-led operation,” DCI said in a statement on Sunday.

In response, Chesang brushed off the allegations terming them as “frivolous, vindictive and prejudicial, but deliberately manufactured to assassinate my character.”

“I am denying the allegations which comes as a shock to me considering I have no knowledge of who the arrested persons are,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

He further claimed that he had gotten wind of how a local leader in his county shared the information with the false DCI, maintaining he is a noble leader.

“I have gathered intelligence on how a local leader from Trans Nzoia county, threatened by my political growth, shared the alleged information posted by the DCI before the investigations body uploaded the story with a message tailored to assassinate my character,” he stated.

“I therefore would like to set the record straight that I am a law-abiding citizen and a respected leader and these alleged lackadaisical, intemperate and acrimonious reports are meant to divert attention from the impact I have made as a senator in Trans Nzoia County.”

Chesang has therefore stated that he will be moving to issue a demand letter to the DCI on Monday “for being used to settle political scores and defamation.”

The Saturday arrest was made following a complaint made by a South African national identified as Ralph Manyaka, who was set to be defrauded a colossal amount of money by the suspects.

Earlier reports revealed that Manyaka had allegedly imported 30kgs of gold from Sierra Leone to Dubai via Kenya. He however received information that his consignment had been confiscated in Nairobi.

He immediately flew to Kenya where he met a man identifying as a customs official George Otieno who told the victim that his consignment could not be dispatched because there were few customs discrepancies and needed to pay Ksh.5.3 million ($36,000) to have the goods released.

“I saw the consignment; my signature was on it exactly as I signed in Sierra Leone. He said the issues are the insurance and declaration. But the other thing is that the buyer wanted to change the consigning details,” Manyaka told Citizen TV.

The suspects are being held at Kilimani police station pending arraignment.
